I’m a nerd! That’s the main problem. I spend 14 out of 24 hours in front of a phone, computer, TV or tablet screen. But you do that too, don’t you?

So your eyesight, just like mine, is slowly losing its sharpness. In this article, let’s discuss how to preserve your eyesight working at the computer, and what actions you should take so that in 5-6 years to not turn into a mole.

After settling in a metropolis, I began to notice that I spend most of my daylight hours in a screen. Going to work – smartphone, at work – computer, going home – smartphone again, at home – computer/telecopter.

Fortunately, if you are a designer, you can count on good technology in the office and at home. But what if you are not? I wouldn’t want to be a bespectacled person by the time I’m 30, since my eyesight has always been excellent. So, I decided to take a number of steps to keep it as long as possible.

A few simple things to do

To be honest with you, there’s no way I’ve been able to reduce my nerdiness. That’s life. So all my efforts were thrown into comfort and timely rest. Here’s what I got out of it:

1. The workplace

If you are a designer – you have to have an expensive, good monitor, without this is impossible. © Your Cap. I bought an Apple Cinema Display.

2. Lighting.

Designers really like to work in the dark. You see, they glare. In my opinion this is stupid and banal indifference to their own health. The thing is that the contrast between the bright monitor and the dark background behind it – makes the eye muscles tense up several times more, which leads to an increase in intraocular pressure. This, in turn, leads to rapid fatigue, headaches and glaucoma.

You can read more about this not-so-pleasant disease on pedivikia.

In selecting a workplace there is only one, proven over the years, the principle – it must be well lit. And the usual desk lamp is not done here – it creates a spot of light. In short, it leads to amoeopathy (myopia).

I use two regular 60-watt bulbs for general lighting (overhead lighting) and a 60-watt desk lamp to light the workplace behind the monitor.

3. Nutrition

Good nutrition is essential for the health of the whole body. Your eyes are no exception. Vitamins A, B, C help your eyes to stay healthy. Carrots, tomatoes, apples, pears, oranges, lemons, rose hips, blueberries, nuts, liver, fish – all these are very good for our eyes.

In addition, once every six months should drink a course of drugs, called “blueberry forte. The price is about 150 rubles, but the positive effect is difficult to overestimate.

4. Charging

Apart from getting off the monitor and hanging around the office for 5-10 minutes every hour (God forgive me), the following exercise really relaxes my eyes: I squeeze my eyes tightly (3-5 seconds), then I blink quickly (5-7 seconds), then close my eyes and put light pressure on them with my fingers. This relieves fatigue and increases concentration.

Thanks to such simple actions, I stopped feeling “sand in the eyes” in the evenings.

5. Sleep

This was the real problem. Ever since I was a teenager I used to go to bed no earlier than 2 a.m. While studying – was able to sleep through classes. But with moving to Moscow – it no longer works. As the result I slept for 5 hours and worked for 9-10 hours. This affected not only the health in general (stomach, eyes) but also overall morale (anger, depression, depression and gloom).

Such a life could have had more serious consequences, so I decided to change the sleep schedule. And then work routines as well, if you know what I mean ☺.

There are a lot of works that say you have to go to sleep at 9 p.m. and get up at 3 a.m. With such a schedule, the nervous system and physical condition – the maximum restored, and through the eyes are useful nutrients. But in a metropolis – it is not possible. I get home at 9 p.m., what kind of sleep is that? That’s why for me now it’s normal to go to bed before 12 and wake up before 8.

In conclusion

After all the above-mentioned physical and mental improvements, I began to see significant improvements. The ability to work has increased, my eyes have stopped hurting.

I believe that everyone should try to take care of their own bodies to the extent possible. And how do you do it?
